On Monday night the Wake County Board of Commissioners voted to adopt a $1.7 billion budget for 2022-2023.
Some of the services benefiting from this budget are public safety, affordable housing, and education. About 52% of the budget is for funding Wake County Public Schools. New this year is a $40,000 Universal School Breakfast program which will be available to all Wake County students.
An increase in property taxes will go towards paying for this new budget. The average assessed home value in Wake County is $337,000. An owner of a home at that assessed value can expect to pay about $66 more per year compared to last year.
