Austin Zoo officials are warning parents and the community of possible threat to health from a caterpillar. It is known as the Asp Caterpillar. Officially known as the Southern Flannel Moth. "It's a little over an inch long. They are teardrop-shaped and covered with long, silky hairs and can range in color from light brown to yellow to gray."
Their sting is quite powerful and can cause burning pain, swelling, Nausea and itching.
This is one bug you don't want to be caught around. Their prime season is from July to November, so right now we are in peak season. Keep a wary eye out for these critters as your kids play outside.
