New Music Report - Week of December 4th

FPM

Happy Monday! Kickstart your week ahead by checking out all of the new music that has just been released in this roundup of new songs, new albums, and new artists that you need to be listening to.

From new albums from Miguel and U2, to songs from Louis Tomlinson and Luke Bryan, to new collaborations from Ed Sheeran & Beyoncé and G-Eazy & Halsey, to our expert picks, take a look at this week's New Music Report.

Ed Sheeran & Beyoncé - "Perfect (Duet)"

Just when you thought Ed Sheeran's "Perfect" couldn't be anymore perfect, he goes and puts BeyoncĂ© on a brand new duet version. In this gorgeous new acoustic iteration of the song, Queen Bey comes in at the second verse, singing about the man of her dreams, while they duet on the remaining choruses. "Be your girl, you'll be my man/And I see my future in your eyes," Bey sings. If BeyoncĂ© and JAY Z ever renew their wedding vows, they better use this song in some fashion.

N.E.R.D. & Future - "1000"

N.E.R.D follows up their Rihanna-assisted "Lemon" with another star-studded collab with Future called "1000.” "What goes up must come down/What goes in must come out/You surrounded, dawg, come on look around/I was zen, but no not now/Holy sh*t it’s working, no more trail of tears/Holy sh*t it’s working, the prophecy is here,” Skateboard P spits on the frenetic cut. Even though the song is sort of all over the place, Future finds a fitting place on it with his signature auto-tuned vocals after the tempo switch up. “1000” is just the latest cut off their new project, which is set to feature AndrĂ© 3000, Gucci Mane, M.I.A., and more. Nobody Ever Really Dies drops on December 15.

Louis Tomlinson - "Miss You"

Louis Tomlinson released a brand new solo single, "Miss You," and it sounds like he's headed straight for Warped Tour with the song. The rock-infused track is vastly different from his previous minimal pop song "Back to You," and is about the girl that he loved a time when he was constantly partying. In the chorus, he sings, "We’re singing 'til last call/And it’s all out of tune/Should be laughing, but there’s something wrong/And it hits me when the lights go on/Sh*t, maybe I miss you."

Louis told UK publication The Sun, "I wrote this song about a time in my life when I was going out partying every night. In hindsight throughout that time I was pretty numb and just going through the motions. Deep down it was always in the back of my mind that what I really missed was the girl that I loved."

Andy Grammer - The Good Parts

Singer/songwriter Andy Grammer has returned with his third studio album The Good Parts, which follows 2014's Magazine or Novels (that included his mega hit "Honey I'm Good"). The new album features 13 new songs including its title track, another previously released song "Smoke Clears" and a collaboration with Lunchmoney Lewis called "Give Love." Andy recently told Billboard of The Good Parts, "This is the first time I’m going to release an album that all the way down in my deepest self -- and as a people pleaser, this is a really crazy to say -- I don’t care if you like it. To actually believe that when I say that
what a different place to be at as a 33-year-old artist."

Miguel - War & Leisure

Miguel delivers with his fourth studio album, War & Leisure, which includes the previously-released "Sky Walker" featuring Travis Scott. Over the course of 12 cuts, the singer elevates his sound for is probably his most political album to date. It's part funk. It's part alt-R&B. Oh, and it's a whole lot of sex. Even though it strays away from the kind of work that contemporary R&B male singers produce, it’s very much a tactfully created set that screams 2017 Miguel. See: "Harlem" and "Now"

Chris Stapleton - From A Room: Volume 2

In the spring of this year, Chris Stapleton released his second full-length album From A Room: Volume 1, and right before 2017 comes to a close, the country star has released the followup, From A Room: Volume 2. The record, produced by Dave Cobb and Stapleton himself, features nine new songs including the previously released "Tryin' to Untangle My Mind," "Scarecrow in the Garden," and more. From A Room: Volume 2 was recorded in the historic RCA Studio A ... and yes that's the "room" in From A Room.

U2 - Songs of Experience

U2 are onto the next phase of their career and from the sounds of it, Songs of Experience is a likely welcome to their discography as it offers the rock veteran a necessary facelift. However, they wouldn't be U2 if they didn't touch on their very own experiences with love, politics and even the band's tribute to family. "It is a very personal album, and it's not gonna become a political album overnight. But it has to now go through the filter of what's happened in the rest of the world," Bono previously said of the LP, and it's clear that the landscape has had an impact on the collection. U2 - 'Songs of Experience'

Luke Bryan - "Out of Nowhere Girl"

Luke Bryan's new album What Makes You Country is less than a week away from officially being released, but the country star has given fans another new song from the record to hold them over: "Out of Nowhere Girl." As suggested by the title, the track is about a woman who is so special, who unexpectedly seemed to come out of nowhere. He sings in the chorus, "My little light out of nowhere girl/Where you been all my life?/Where you been trying to hide?/It's like you come/Come from another world."

Juicy J featuring Cardi B - "Kamasutra"

Juicy J scored gold for his sex-fused "Kamasutra" and it features the high in-demand Cardi B. Over production from Mike WiLL Made-It, which, yes, include bouncing bed springs, the pair go in about sex and it's pretty explicit. “Caution sign on, slippery when wet, boy / Come on baby, I’m exactly what them boys like / No playing games daddy, suck and f**k you all night," Bardi spits on the cut. However, it’s probably better that you just give “Kamasutra” a listen rather than read just how dirty these two get.

Logic & Rag'n'Bone Man - "Broken People"

Just a day after his Grammy nomination, Logic dropped a new Rag'n'Bone Man-assisted cut off Netflix's Bright soundtrack called "Broken People." As you would expect from the rapper, he speaks for the underdogs. “We’re broken people now,” he belts out on the track. “We’re burning out/So cold and bleeding now/Gonna let you down/We’re broken people now.” The Bright soundtrack also features the likes of Migos, DRAM, Ty Dolla $ign and Machine Gun Kelly.

Martin Garrix & David Guetta featuring Jamie Scott & Romy Dya - "So Far Away"

Leave it to Martin Garrix and David Guetta to team up for another dance music mega-collab BOP. It's been an amazing year of dance/pop anthems from both dance music DJs, and the duo is ending 2017 with another one, "So Far Away." The track was originally debuted at Tomorrowland in Belgium, and featured vocals from Ellie Goulding, however the final song features British singer/songwriter Jamie Scott, and Romy Dya (who sang on the song's demo). "So Far Away" is about a couple's long distance relationship that can't seem to work. Romy sings in the second verse, "It's breaking me, I'm losing you/We were far from perfect, but we were worth it/Too many fights, and we cried, but never said we're sorry/Stop saying you love me."

PRETTYMUCH featuring French Montana - "No More"

PRETTYMUCH released a brand new single, and this time, the guys have teamed up with rapper French Montana for "No More." The electronic R&B track is the group's latest effort after dropping a string of singles this year, which include "Would You Mind," "Teacher," and "Open Arms." On "No More," the guys sing about wanting their lover to be vocal about what they want out of the relationship. In the chorus, they sing, "Tell me what you want cause I just can’t wait no more/Tell me where you are cause I just can’t wait no more/I wanna be the one but I just don’t know if I can wait no more."

During an interview with Hollywood Life, PRETTYMUCH'S Brandon says of working with French on the song, "It got to French’s manager, and when he heard it, he was like, 'Wow, I love this, I love these guys, I’m gonna get on this.' Literally that day, he recorded his verse and sent it back to us. We’re like, 'This is sick!' It’s exciting."

Pitbull featuring Farruko & Micha - "Mucho Booty"

If you're a Pitbull fan, this is a very good week for you. Not only did Mr. Worldwide drop his Greatest Hits album, he also released a brand new song on top that called "Mucho Booty," and it features Puerto Rican singer/songwriter Farruko and Micha. The trio has joined forces to bring the world a brand new anthem all about the booty, in the form of a trip track. Dale!

Devin Dawson - "Asking For A Friend"

It's officially December, which means next month, fans will finally get their hands on Devin Dawson's debut album Dark Horse. But in the meantime, the country singer/songwriter has gifted fans a brand new song from the record called "Asking For A Friend." And if you've ever found yourself telling someone you're "Asking For A Friend," when that "friend" is really yourself, then this song is for you, and in it Devin is singing to the girl of his dreams. He sings in the chorus, "What man wouldn't make you the love of his life/He'd be a fool, he'd be a fool/Just one drink would sure mean a lot to him/Yeah, I'm just asking for a friend."

Devin tweeted about the new track, "I realized recently that growing up listening to iconic & well crafted country music was how I learned how to write songs in the first place. I’ve always been drawn to & haunted by words/lyrics & I’m really proud of the story this one tells."

Shy Glizzy, Trey Songz & A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie - "Dope Boy Magic"

Shy Glizzy returns with a new single featuring Trey Songz and A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie and it's a trap-charged banger. It bounces all over the place. It hypnotized during the chorus. However, there should notable shoutouts to Trey and A Boogie for their contributions, particularly the former with his straightforward warnings. Glizzy is prepping his Quiet Storm EP for December 12 and has called it the "deepest story ever told.”

EMERGING ARTIST OF THE WEEK: Marina Morgan

Marina Morgan

If you're looking to feel inspired, then you will definitely want to get to know singer/songwriter Marina Morgan and her music. Marina, who likes to use to the hashtag #turningdreamsintoreality on social media, has overcome difficult health struggles, and is now accomplishing her dreams as she is just getting started in her music career; she's already performed on Today and Good Day New York, and has been named Elvis Duran's "Artist of the Month."

Last year, Marina captured the hearts and the attention of many when she released her inspiring single "Paralyzed," which is about overcoming obstacles -- and for Morgan, it was her health. The 24-year-old has been battling Lyme's Disease, which had left the muscles in her legs weak and even caused blindness in one eye. And when she was younger, the New York native had been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. Combatting her health issues didn't stop Marina from achieving her dreams in music, and only fueled her drive to work towards her goal. "Paralyzed" received a tremendous amount of support from fans, especially those who also suffer from Lyme's, which is often referred to as a "very misunderstood disease."

Fast forward to today, and Marina has has a brand new single called "Nightmare," which world premiered on Elvis Duran and the Z100 Morning Show. The dance/pop song shifts gears, and is more about a "romance gone wrong." Marina recently told Women's Health, "I want to be able to show a different side of me now and let everybody see not just Marina Morgan, the sick girl but Marina Morgan, the artist."

EXPERT PICKS

Nicole's Picks:

Jessie Reyez - "Cotton Candy"

In case you were unaware of Jessie Reyez's raw talent, then you will definitely want to give her new song "Cotton Candy" a listen. The track flawlessly proves her vocal ability through her emotional lyrics. The song, featuring only soft guitar riffs and her voice, tells the story of heartbreak, as she is trying to save a relationship from ending. Jessie sings, "I know this road too well/I don't wanna see you at a bar/And think we could have tried a little harder (little harder)/Don't wanna see you at a bar/And maybe you start thinking 'Damn, I lost her.'"

On Twitter, Jessie revealed of the new track, "New song In my living room over a year ago. Messed up over the same heart break where 'Figures' came from. A mic, a laptop and loner."

LANCO - "Born to Love You"

From the first time I saw LANCO perform, the band became one of my new favorite country music acts. And if you've never seen them in concert before, WHAT ARE EVEN YOU DOING?! You'll have a blast. But I digress. LANCO is preparing to release their debut album Hallelujah Nights in January, and the band has given fans a brand new song from the record called "Born To Love You." The new track is a sweet, uplifting song all about finding the love of your life. The band's lead singer Brandon Lancaster sings, "Looking in your eyes, yeah it's all so clear/Every time you smile, I know why I'm here/Wherever I go and whatever I do/I was born to love you, I was born to love you."

Brandon recently said of the song, "Sonically, ‘Born To Love You’ is one of my favorite songs on the record because it’s really the bridge between the two different aspects of Hallelujah Nights. It starts out a bit laid back and builds into this real rocking and up-tempo song that reflects the lyrics. In an anthemic way, it’s an ode to the path hometowns set out for you and the different experiences we go through that lead to finding someone who is literally your reason for being here."

James' Picks:

Different Heaven - "Live At Night" feat. Sophie Simmons

Sophie Simmons, daughter of legendary KISS frontman Gene Simmons, offers some warm vocals on Different Heaven’s new single “Live At night,” and it’s a brooding house cut. Over some dreamy production, Simmons sings about feeling alive, particularly when the sun goes down. It’s a slinky number that explodes with the Spanish DJ’s bouncing beat during the hook of the track. However, the best part of it all is that “Live At Night” really helps showcase how well Sophie sounds on electro tunes.

G-Eazy featuring Halsey - "Him & I"

G-Eazy and Halsey take their real-life romance to the studio with "Him & I," a 2017 telling of their reckless love that features a soaring hook and even refers to the pair as the "2017 Bonnie and Clydd." Bold title, guys.

"I think she’s an incredibly talented artist who has accomplished so much at such a young age. She’s one of the biggest artists in the whole world. At 22 years old, that’s pretty phenomenal. ‘Him & I’ is a Bonnie and Clyde song. It’s a pretty intense, crazy in love song. She killed the record,” Gerald said of the experience. "Him & I" is the latest cut off G-Eazy's third studio album, The Beautiful & Damned, which just so happens to be a double-album. It drops December 15.
