Statue honoring Austin Icon one step closer

Congress Avenue Bridge

Leslie was well known down on Congress and 6th street for over 2 decades.  The thong wearing, bra adorned cross dressing man lovingly known as Leslie, was one well known character of Austin. He ran for City Mayor a few times and finished as high as second during one election. He also appeared on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, as one of Austin's many characters. This March will mark 6 years since Leslie was seen roaming the streets and Spencer Nutting, a local film maker, is putting the final touches on a statue that will be there to honor to local hero. Austin Artist Bob Coffee designed the statue and placed it on it's bench in front of Starbucks downtown this weekend for it's last fitting before making the final statue and placing it at it's location.
