Looking at pictures of food might ruin your appetite.
New research published in the Journal of Consumer Psychology says the visual anticipation of food -- like looking at pictures of meals people post online -- may not heighten the eating experience after all, and it may do just the opposite.
Scientists at Brigham Young University and the University of Minnesota found that looking at images of a certain type of food and then eating that food, diminishes the gratification.
They call it "sensory boredom." Once you imagine eating something, that starts the process and detracts from the experience of actually eating it.
