CARSON, Calif. (AP) — An armed man has been killed by police in a running gunbattle that began in Long Beach and ended in neighboring Carson.

City News Service reports the violence unfolded after Long Beach officers were flagged down at a.m. Wednesday.

Long Beach Deputy Chief Robert Luna says a woman reported that an armed man had made death threats against her and her family.

Luna says a Los Angeles police helicopter crew then spotted a man believed to be the suspect at a gas station in Carson, but arriving police units were met with gunfire.

After an exchange, the suspect ran off through a park and more shots were fired.

Luna says the man then ran into a neighborhood and tried to break into a residence but was shot.
