Apple is making waves with its new desktop operating system.

They're calling it OS X Mavericks, named after a popular surfing spot in northern California.

The big news is that Apple is making it available for free, and industry experts say this could signal the end of the paid operating system.

But it's making waves for another reason -- Mavericks also fixes the Apple Contacts vulnerability that the NSA may have been exploiting to snoop on information insider Americans' computers.

A software expert says he's found a change in the way Mavericks syncs contacts with Google accounts -- the information is now encrypted.
